A dispute over the estate of cricketing-icon Richie Benaud has been settled without the need to go to trial, reports the Daily Telegraph.
The well-known cricket commentator died in Sydney in April last year after contracting skin cancer.
He was survived by his wife, Daphne, whom he had married following his divorce from his first wife, Marcia. He also left behind two sons from his marriage with Marcia.
Daphne and Richie had lived in a waterfront property valued at around $2 million, and were also the owners of a property in the south of France. His ex-wife Marcia lives in a Department of Housing property along with one of her sons, Gregory.
Marcia and Gregory had submitted a claim on Richie Benaud’s estate for their “maintenance and advancement in life” and interest.
It has now been reported that the parties met privately and came to an agreement that Daphne Benaud will pay Marcia and Gregory an undisclosed amount in settlement of their claim. Both Marcia and Gregory have expressed their satisfaction with the outcome.
Speaking to the media, Gregory Benaud denied he had any bad feelings towards his father’s widow, who he said had always been very kind to him and his brother. He stated that he was only doing what his father had wanted by making a claim on the estate.
