Laundy Will dispute settles

A dispute between NSW hoteliers Arthur Laundy and Robyn De Angelis over alleged changes to their mother's Will has settled, reports Business Review Weekly.

The dispute seems to have arisen over a codicil apparently signed by Veronica Laundy about three months before her death, which affected the amount that Robyn De Angelis was set to inherit.

The issue appears now to have been resolved, with De Angelis telling Business Review Weekly:

"My brother has abandoned his reliance on the codicil and as a result my mother's original Will stands."

Codicils are documents that can be used to change a Will and are generally used if the changes to be made are relatively minor. They need to be signed and witnessed in the same way as the Will itself.

However, the use of codicils, particularly if there are several over time, can increase the risk of confusion as to what the terms of the Will actually mean - and therefore make it more likely that the Will itself will be challenged.
