A family dispute over the estate of Neville Wran, the former NSW premier, appears to have reached a partial resolution, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Neville Wran was premier of NSW for ten years, from 1976 to 1986. He died in April 2014 at the age of 87, and left behind an estate worth around $40 million, consisting mainly of property. Much of this property is apparently owned by Mr Wran’s second wife, Jill Hickson Wran, who also received a number of personal effects under the terms of Mr Wran’s Will.
After his death, a dispute developed within the family, with his two youngest children, Harriet and Hugo, his adopted son Glenn and god-daughter Helene De Poortere on one side, and another daughter, Kim Wran Sheftell, on the other. Mrs Wran Sheftell is a half-sister to Neville Wran’s other children and is also the executor of his estate.
A hearing was held on the case in the NSW Supreme Court in May last year, but a subsequent mediation appears to have succeeded in reaching a resolution, at least in part. Harriet, Hugo and Helene have all announced that their claims have been “resolved in principle”. However, Glenn Wran’s claim has still to be settled.
